During an Acrobat non-silent install, the installer displays a number of screens which guide the user through the process and allow for licensing as well as the customization of certain features. Since admins typically use silent installs for mass deployments, Adobe provides methods for pre-deployment configuration. These tasks include:
Provide a serial number acrobat x pro trial

If you are using the Wizard to configure the application prior to deployment, enter the license information in the user interface as described in the user documentation. Doing so writes the serial number information to the abcpy.ini file. This file needs to be placed in the same directory as the MSI used at installation time.
Installations that use MSI files require that the Abcpy.ini file contain the serial number information for the application. For example, during an administrative installation point deployment, the MSI file reads Abcpy.ini to get the needed information. If you have not used the Wizard, set this up manually as follows:
Deployments that use EXE files require that the Setup.ini file contain the serial number information for the application. For example, during a bootstrapper Setup.exe deployment, the EXE file reads Setup.ini to get the needed information. You can set this up manually as follows:
Since you purchased Acrobat, all you need to do is convert your trial version to a licensed version. You do this by entering your serial number in the Activation dialog. You can find complete instructions here: -productkb/global/installing-activating-try-buy-product.html
From what you've stated it appears that you paid for an Acrobat 9 upgrade version of Acrobat X. So, of course, if you do not have the Acrobat 9 product serial number the upgrade version of Acrobat X will not "take". Upon registration the serial number is stored in your "My Account" at Adobe.
If you still have your Acrobat 9 install media it has the serial number.I'm not sure if Adobe supported fully online purchase, download, install for the Acrobat 9 product family back in the day. If such was supported then upon purchase/registration the serial number is banked in your "My Account" at Adobe.
If, for whatever reason, the Acrobat 9 serial number is not availble then you'll not be able to use the upgrade version of Acrobat X. To deal with that you will have to take it up with Adobe customer support as there is nothing the other end-users here can do in that regard.
Here is the full story. recently I bought a new laptop with Windows 8 installed. I do not remember if I "asked" for a Acrobat Trial for Version 11 but I have already purchased the Adobe Acrobat X Pro. When I was loading up my different programs on the new lap I also installed the Version X as I bought the disks. During the past 30 days I have been using the Acrobat program, not sure if it was the trial or not. Now the trial period is over so I attempted to enter the serial number for the Version X in the Trial window and it asks for the version I am "upgrading" from. No go, it did not like what I put in. My problem now is "how do I get into the installed Version X of Acrobat? When I click on the desktop icon for the Acrobat it opens up the Trial Window and will not let me in. I am going to remove the installed program and attempt to reload.
I purchased CS5 about two months ago. After installing CS5 successfully, when I tried to install Acrobat 10 Pro, the installation won't accept the serial #. By the way, the PC had Acrobat 6 Pro on it which I uninstalled before installing CS5. Acrobat 10 had an option to install it in trial mode. So in installed it in trial mode thinking it may accept the serial # once installed or I can get help from Adobe. Long story short neither option worked. So I uninstalled Acrobat 10 and then tried to re-install it. It still won't accept the serial #. I cancelled the installation. In my 20 years of experience with computers I have never seen a product that didn't accept a valid serial #! However, when I tried installing it using an Acrobat 10 Pro disc that was ordered with volume licensing it accepted the serial # for Acrobat 10 that came with CS5. After installation I was able to activate it. This was a bit odd that the serial # didn't work with the disc it's meant for but it worked with a volume licensing disc. Now the problem is that every now and then a message pops up asking to activate Acrobat which is already activated. The options to activate and deactivate are disabled under Help on the main menu. It's very annoying. What's one to do? Any help is appreciated. 2ff7e9595c
